The Crooked Path by Kelden (@keldenmercury on Instagram) is hands-down one of my favorite books about witchcraft that has been written in recent years.
It is a book I feel comfortable recommending to complete beginners as well as more experienced practitioners, as it covers the fundamentals of Traditional Witchcraft (what it is, what it isn’t, history, and core tools and practices), while also sprinkling in lore and rituals that are useful for elevating one’s practice regardless of their experience level.
The rituals, spells, and practices offered up in the pages of The Crooked Path are diverse, ranging from traditional folk magic like witch bottles, witch’s ladders, and poppets to weather magic and planetary magic.
Personally, my favorite sections were those that covered working within the Otherworld — hedge crossing, meeting familiar spirits, and working with the fetch spirit.
I also love how the entire book is written as a sort of initiatory experience, which helps to keep the reader engaged as they progress through each chapter.
This book has been out for a while now (in fact, Kelden has recently published his second book, The Witches’ Sabbath) and many of you are likely already familiar with it. But, I couldn’t not include this one on my timeline.
