(Note: You may have seen this series before over on the Mage By Moonlight Instagram. Given the extremely positive response, I have decided to share it here on the blog as well. Enjoy!)
I am very excited to announce the start of my new #PaganUPG series! For those who don’t know, UPG = Unverified Personal Gnosis.
Virtually all of the pagan gnosis (spiritual and esoteric knowledge) you see online and in books is derived from myths, historical texts, and archeological findings. By comparison, UPG is gnosis that is personal (unique to an individual) and unverified (not provable, or without evidence other than an individual’s experiences).
In other words, UPG is derived from an individual’s visions, trance journeys, rituals, dreams, and divinatory work.
✨ I believe talking about UPG is exceedingly important, and I wish we saw more of it in the greater pagan community ✨
UPG serves as a reminder that the gods and goddesses are not frozen in some ancient era, and they are not confined to historical archetypes; they are timeless, they are dynamic, they are here, they are now, they are with us always.
Sharing UPG can be a deeply validating exercise; how would it feel for you to know that others experience some of the same thoughts, visions, emotions, or sensations that you do when communicating with a certain deity?
It can also introduce us to new aspects of a god or goddess we may not have encountered, and spark inspiration for future rituals or divination.
So I’m going to be sharing my personal UPG about some of the primary gods and goddesses that are part of my spiritual practice. I would love for everyone to follow along and share their UPG about the gods and goddesses I highlight in the comments of these posts.
My hope is that we can start a dialogue and make sharing UPG more commonplace in the online pagan community (important note: UPG should always be identified as such).
Make sure you don’t miss any posts in the series by following the #PaganUPG hashtag on Instagram, or by checking back here on the Mage By Moonlight blog.
