Am I the only pagan who venerates Saturn? It feels that way sometimes…alas, the world would be better with more Saturn devotees so let’s share some UPG.
Quick refresher: Saturn is the Roman god of agriculture, wealth, liberation & time who ruled over a Golden Age of abundance. In astrology, Saturn is considered a malefic planet that rules structure, boundaries, limitations, discipline & maturity.
My UPG: The qualities of Saturn the god & Saturn the planet may seem contradictory, but I believe they are perfectly, absolutely complementary.
How does one achieve wealth & abundance without discipline & structure? How does one make time for things that matter without limiting time spent on other things?
As the Lord of Boundaries & Limitations, Saturn helps to create more of these— which can be a very good thing (setting boundaries in relationships, limiting junk food / bad habits, etc). He also helps us identify our own inner limitations so we may overcome them.
Saturn is no doubt a deity that commands much respect & his presence can feel intimidating, yet there is a certain fatherly or grandfatherly aspect to him as well.
The more I have built a relationship with him, the less heavy his presence has begun to feel.
No, Saturn is not an easy teacher—he will challenge you. He appreciates offerings of black coffee, but the best way to prove oneself to Saturn is through consistent actions. He rewards discipline, routine & responsibility above all.
When I was first building a relationship with Saturn, I held a Saturn ritual every Saturday during Saturn’s hour (look up planetary times as this changes daily) for 12 weeks.
I committed to a 30-day yoga challenge, which has ended up being life-changing for me as yoga is now an important part of my life 1.5 years later. Shadow work has also been part of my Saturn journey.
I have also experienced more signs and synchronicities with Saturn than with any other deity: visions, dream wisdom, strong gut feelings, strange and unlikely coincidences. He is not subtle at all in my experience.
I do believe that as a result of working with Saturn, he has sent certain challenges & trials my way. That may sound scary, but it has resulted in overcoming some of my deepest fears & shedding spiritual / emotional baggage that was holding me back.
Saturn is ultimately a god of liberation, & that is the reward for walking his path.
